Making a Positive Impact

Since 2008, we are honored to have supported the education of over 8,000 children, repaired and rebuilt over 45 classrooms, created new employment for 4,000 farmer families in remote mountain villages, planted 500,000 organic coffee, tea, and nut trees, aided 250,000 people in disaster relief and poverty alleviation, and played a critical role in sustaining our local partner organizations and helping them to garner more than $3,000,000 in funding from other sources to make change in their communities and to act as community advocates beyond our direct programs.

Our Approach

Seed money, gap funding, and inclusive partnerships turn small donations into big impact.

We partner with local leaders who are driven to make change in their home communities. Together, we create support for children and families, strengthen communities, and develop economic resilience.

Nancy & her family with Deana, Everest Base Camp Trek 2007

Our Story

Deana and Nancy met in the mountains and valleys of the Himalayas, when Deana was the guide for Nancy and her family’s trek to Everest Base Camp in 2007. What started as a conversation on the trail evolved into a wholehearted collaboration as we discovered that we shared a deep desire to support the people of Nepal.  We founded Changing Lives Nepal the following year to help people in Nepal create a better future for themselves.

From Deana’s early experience as Peace Corps Volunteer, to the founding of CLN, to the present day, we have a 22-year relationship with the communities and leaders we support.

The Need in Nepal

25% of Nepal’s 30 million people live below the poverty line.

Monthly income in the villages where we work is ~$90 per person.

Rural families depend primarily on subsistence farming on difficult mountain terrain, which leaves 17% of the population undernourished.

36% of children do not complete basic high school education due to poverty.

Over 40% of girls are married before age 18, and this makes them twice as likely to be victims of domestic and sexual violence.

Women and children in Nepal are increasingly vulnerable as economic, political, and climate instabilities increase.

Our hearts are touched by the warmth of the Nepalese people and also by the difficult conditions of their lives. We are committed to making a difference and changing lives.
