Children’s Home
Make a Donation
In 2008, Changing Lives Nepal provided seed money to establish a family-style home for orphaned and abandoned children in Talamarang Village.
Our local partner Neel Thakuri, Director of TEAM Nepal, grew up in this small village which is about three hours outside Kathmandu in a rural mountain region. In addition to CLN’s seed money, TEAM Nepal effectively secured further donor support over the years to successfully expand the home and facilities.
Our children live together like brothers and sisters and help each other as a family. They have strong bonds and emotional resilience which supports them in their daily lives.
CLN has continued to provide supplementary grants over the last decade for the completion of a kitchen, a duck house, an organic garden, and dormitory housing for annual student volunteer groups. Neel’s commitment and regular involvement in the home ensured high-quality construction and attention to detail. As a result, when the devastating 7.9 earthquake of 2015 struck Nepal, damage to the home and property was only minor, and the children remained safe.
CLN has supported an organic garden, a mushroom house, goats and chickens, to enable the home to produce some of its own food and be over 30% self-sustaining today. In addition to school and homework, the children help with gathering vegetables and firewood, washing their clothes, tending the gardens, and caring for the animals. Our children are tutored by Nepali instructors to improve their academic progress and attend a local school that CLN also supports. The first children living at the home recently completed high school successfully!
CLN is committed to supporting the education and care of these children so that they can complete high school and create successful futures for themselves.
